A clip from the anime movie Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo has been shared on the Toei Eiga YouTube channel. The movie, which started screening in Japan on November 17, features a significant scene depicting Mizuki's initial meeting with Kitaro's father.

Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo is a significant component of the 100th-year Birth Anniversary project honoring the esteemed creator of GeGeGe no Kitaro, Shigeru Mizuki. The movie revolves around the premise of Medama-yaji and Kitaro exploring the ancient remains of Nagura Village, triggering a flood of memories from events that transpired there 70 years ago.

The cast includes:

• Toshihiko Seki as Kitaro’s father (in his non-Medama-oyaji form)
• Hidenobu Kiuchi as Mizuki 
• Atsumi Tanezaki as Sayo Ryoga
• Miyuki Sawashiro as Kitaro
• Umeka Shouji as Neko Musume
• Masako Nozawa as Medama-oyaji

The main production staff for the anime includes Gou Koga (Gekijou ban Gegege no Kitaro: Nippon Bakuretsu, Digimon Universe: App Monsters) as director, Hiroyuki Yoshino (World Trigger 3rd Season series composer and scriptwriter) as scriptwriter, and Touko Yatabe (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time co-assistant director) as character designer. Toei Animation is in charge of the animation production.

According to Kogyo Tsushin, Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo ended its debut weekend in second place on the weekend box office chart. It recorded a moviegoer count of 111,500 and a gross of 160 million yen (~US$1.08 million) for its first three days.

The rich history of the GeGeGe no Kitaro franchise traces back to its origins in 1960 with the release of the manga series Hakaba Kitaro. In 1965, the beloved GeGeGe no Kitaro manga series was introduced to readers.

The first GeGeGe no Kitaro anime adaptation aired from 1968 to 1969, captivating audiences during that time. Fast forward to 2018, and a new series based on GeGeGe no Kitaro emerged, continuing the legacy. Additionally, in 2008, an anime adaptation centered around Hakaba Kitaro made its premiere.
