Most people are into the heroes or final bosses, but not Cid Kagenou. He prefers the type of character who hides his abilities and pretends to be a weakling, while secretly manipulating the story from the shadows.

In admiration of these characters, Cid lives a mediocre life by day while undergoing hard training by night. One day, he dies in a car accident and reincarnates in a fantasy world.

Now free to play out his “power in the shadows” fantasy, he begins (jokingly) operating in the shadows to defeat a dark cult (that he made up). However, it turns out this dark cult is actually quite real...?

Due to a misunderstanding, Cid’s female companions, who initially took him on on a whim, begin worshiping him. Without even realising it, Cid becomes a true power in the shadows, and his organization, Shadow Garden, goes on to vanquish the world’s darkness...
