On November 17, 2023, Netflix started streaming the Scott Pilgrim Takes Off animated series, accompanied by a captivating new key visual unveiled by Science SARU's official Twitter account. The series comprises a total of eight episodes.

The visual was drawn by the series’ character designer and chief animation director Masamichi Ishiyama (Tatami Time Machine Blues animation director). 

With its larger-than-life characters, tournament arc fight scenes, and cutesy yet stylish art style, Scott Pilgrim already possessed an inherent anime-like quality before its transformation into a film. Hence, it comes as no surprise that its anime adaptation features renowned voice actors lending their talents to the project.

The animated series is under the direction of Spanish animator Abel Góngora, known for his work as the director of "T0-B1" in Star Wars: Visions. Joining him as executive producers are Bryan Lee O'Malley, the original creator, Edgar Wright, the director of the 2010 live-action film adaptation, and BenDavid Grabinski. Composing the musical score are Joseph Trapanese and the chiptune pop rock band Anamanaguchi. Overseeing the animation production is Science SARU, with producer Eunyoung Choi.

Joining Ishiyama as character designers for the series are Shouko Nishigaki (INU-OH key animation) and Shuuhei Handa (Gridman Universe key animation). Other staff members include Takayuki Kotani as art director and Eriko Kimura (Heavenly Delusion, INU-OH) as sound director.  

Japanese rock band Necry Talkie is also performing the series’ main opening theme “Bloom.”

Netflix describes the story of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off as: 

Scott Pilgrim meets the girl of his dreams, Ramona Flowers, but learns he must defeat her seven evil exes in order to date her. Then things get even more complicated. Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O’Malley.
